About the Teacher

I received an Associate's Degree in 2005 from the University of Mississippi. I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 2007 from that same school. I was not the traditional student. When my daughter, Abby McCool, graduated from Horn Lake High School, she wanted to pursue a career in education; we went to college together and graduated together. Because of my children, I have always been involved with their education. This journey began when they started school. I drove a bus for DeSoto County Schools because they wanted to ride. I worked in the cafeteria because they thought they would get those extra, delicious rolls. I also was a teacher's assistant for 8 years at Horn Lake Intermediate. Because I started my career in Horn Lake, there lies my passion. Lastly, while attending the University of Mississippi, I was awarded the Omicron Award for Adult Learners. Incidentally, I graduated with honors!

Hello Parents & Students: Since I have learned so much about your children, I would like to tell you a little about me. Before I became a teacher, I was a bus driver in DeSoto County.  I was also a teacher assistant at HLIS. I decided to go back to school to earn my degree in education and graduated from the University of Mississippi in 2007 with honors. In that same year, I was inducted to membership in the Omicron Delta Chapter. The Omicron Delta Chapter is a National Honor Society for adult learners in continuing higher education.

One of my daughters, Abby McCool, teaches fourth grade at HLIS (and we graduated from Ole  Miss together). My other daughter is a Staff Sgt. in the Air Force in Alabama. My son served in the Marines and the Florida National Guard. Both of my soldiers went to Iraq.

Some of the things I love to do when I am not in the class room is spend time with my family, read, decorate, cook, go to church, try new foods, travel, and be with my grandchildren.

My philosophy for teaching is that all children have the capability to learn if they have a disciplined mind and a willing spirit.

My philosophy for living is...love one another! (Even when they don't deserve it)!
